Asset Management for Water and Wastewater Facilities

City of Boynton Beach, Florida

Project
Highlights

  • Two water treatment plants and a regional wastewater treatment facility.

  • Multi-discipline inspection team.

  • Risk-based prioritization plan.

  • 20-year planning horizon.

PROJECT GOALS, ACHIEVEMENTS, AND BENEFITS

This project involved performing condition assessments of the City of Boynton Beach’s two water treatment plants and for the South Central Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant. This included assessing condition, assignment of criticality scores, calculation of risks and project rankings, and development of a repair and replacement Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).

MME used the Wastewater and Water Asset Management Software (WAM). This is a custom application that was developed to be used in the field for ease of entering asset identification and condition information and later as a tool for developing scenario rankings of priority for repair and replacement schedules. The asset trees for each of the two Boynton water treatment plants were also developed using WAM.

Following the completion of the condition assessments, all relevant asset data on condition, repair and replacement (R&R) costs, and criticality were developed. This asset information was also entered into WAM - and run to develop the initial risk ranking, and optimal sequencing of R&R projects. From this optimized risk ranking, annual costs were developed for the optimized R&R program.
