Bioavailability of Mercury Discharges

Water Environment Research Foundation

Project
Highlights

  • Developed Methylation Tool to identify site-specific conditions.

  • Project for the Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF).

PROJECT GOALS, ACHIEVEMENTS, AND BENEFITS

McGovern McDonald Engineers (MME) assisted the Water Environment Research Federation (WERF) with assessing the methylation potential and bioavailability of mercury discharged from point sources into receiving waters, with a focus on the San Francisco Bay. MME helped to develop a tool to help dischargers assess this potential for site-specific conditions. (Estimation of Mercury Bioaccumulation Potential from Wastewater Treatment Plants in Receiving Waters, 05-WEM-1CO).
