Fire Station Stormwater Management Plan

San Francisco Department of Public Works, California

Project
Highlights

  • Development of the Stormwater Management Plan for the first Blue Roof in San Francisco.

  • Evaluation of Low Impact Development Alternatives in order to meet Stormwater Design Guidelines in a land constrained site.

  • Negotiated final design with regulatory/permitting agencies.

PROJECT GOALS, ACHIEVEMENTS, AND BENEFITS

McGovern McDonald Engineers (MME) worked with the San Francisco Department of Public Works (DPW) to successfully meet the requirements of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission’s (SFPUC) Stormwater Design Guidelines for the City’s first Blue Roof stormwater management project. This project entails the development of a Stormwater Management Plan, and submittal of a Stormwater Control Plan for the station’s Blue Roof and infiltration trench. Various low impact development (LID) alternatives were considered for the land and roof constrained sight. MME worked diligently with DPW and SFPUC to overcome schedule constraints, regulatory jurisdiction challenges, and overall design changes that occurred at various stages of the project that impacted stormwater management design.
